4l60e no reverse fix

May 2, 2010 · 146 posts · Joined 2007. #1 · May 2, 2010. I have a 1997 S10 with a 4L60E transmission and reverse went out the other day. Also 1st gear is sluggish, I have to let off the gas so it can catch. All the other gears work ok.

Forward clutch is applied in all forward gears, forward sprag clutch is applied in all forward gears except 4th, those are your primary suspects in the clutch department.
